I don't hate myself..well..maybe just a little!

I've been tagged by Rima to list 10 things I hate about me. And in light of the fact that I have no idea what to write today, I shall oblige her :) So let's see...

1. Procrastination. I have tried so much to make this change, and yet, I still procrastinate all the time.

2. I get bored very easily so what I like today I might dislike it tomorrow.

3. I'm not sure if I'm indecisive or not.

4. I can care so much about other people, I tend to forget about myself.

5. I am kind with people that I shouldn't be kind with, because I see the goodness in everybody, even if I then realize they only take things for granted from me.

6. I hate to admit when I’m wrong.

7. My hair is simply unmanageable. Everyday I have to attempt to contain it in a bun, and I hate it.

8. I hate that I have big hips so I can never get jeans that fit right without trying them out first.

9. I hate that I'm a little afraid of crossing the streets in Jakarta, I often envision myself getting run down by the crazy motorists here.

10. I'm a model example of inconsistency. I'm intrigued to try to be a vegetarian at some point, but I can't see giving up the culinary joys for a lifetime.

Well, this is a tough question. Everything that I've gone through my life so far had highs and lows, some that I don't want to remember at all. But for the sake of the tag, lets review part of age I wish to go back to.

I wish I could go back to my high school years in Yogyakarta. Even though I stayed far away from my parents (home town was in Bandar Lampung, Sumatra) I was so confident of myself, I had big dreams and optimistic with my future. I was a member of the school marching band, I was carefree, I loved the school trips to the Borobudur, Prambanan and many other temples surround the area and wrote my trip reviews after that. My favorite pastime was to visit the Sultan palace in Yogya, watching the local artists making batik, clay pottery, wood carving. Maybe that’s what started me on crafts addict? I also missed the dormitory life with different people from different walks of life and different characters. Believe or not, dormitory life is an extremely happy thing. You made new friends, experience independence, difficulties and enjoyed the fun being a teenager even though we had had so many rules and restrictions to follow. Life was good, my only concern then was to stay in top three in my class!

But this happiness was short lived. When my dad was seriously ill, I decided not to continue my education to the university but joined my oldest sister to work in a remote area where you had to fetch the water from the well each time you wanted to take a bath. My first job was as a junior secretary at a French join venture hydro-electric power project. Gone are the days where I could run around under the rains without a second glance, and I didn't socialize much either given the location of my workplace. But I don't feel sorry for myself. I know I'm not the only one. It happens to millions of other people and you just have to cope with it. Hardship has been a companion of mine for years and I guess these made me a stronger person. So that's it...I’m telling you boring things about myself, LOL!

The green issue

I've been tagged for another meme by Anna. The topic is Global Warming awareness. I am an admitted latecomer to environmental concerns but I do believe that our life styles have contributed to the global warming problem. It's never too late to start caring for the earth and that it can all start from home. So here we go :

1. I’m not a vegetarian, but I have cut back my meat consumption (for a few years now), especially red meat or their byproducts. Only in special occasions will I eat meat and that is normally in a small portion.

2. I wash my hair every morning but I almost always let my hair dry naturally. I don't like blow drying my hair and I do not use hairspray either.

3. Take public transport whenever possible.

4. Use energy saving bulbs in my house and turn the light off whenever the rooms are unoccupied. Same for TV and computer.

5. Donate usable clothing, newspapers, magazines.

6. Use hands to wash my clothes and line dry them (in Jakarta the clothes dry quite fast because the weather in general is pretty warm).

7. Print on both sides of paper whenever possible.

8. Use home air conditioning sparingly.

Seven things meme

Apparently I’ve been tagged by Ecky. The gist of it is to name
7 THINGS YOU APPROVE OF. Here goes :

1. Kindness, tolerance and good manners:
The world today is way different then it was when I was a kid. People have become so self-absorbed, esp. in the big cities, that consideration of someone else is almost non-existent. A prime example is it takes a lot of guts to cross the street in Jakarta without being hit by the crazy cars, motorcycles, buses and huge lorries---esp. in places where there's no cross walk sign for pedestrians---all whip around at the speed that can kill you instantly. I even often have a hard time crossing the road in front of the mall in my area, and prefer to wait for other people to jump out first without risking me getting run down by the selfish drivers.

2. Stay healthy :
I have a long term goal to eat healthy and work on an endo diet because it helps to slowly reversing the regular pelvic pain that I have had. I’m finally educated enough to do it the right way even though I often break the rule once in a while. My health is my most treasured possession.

3. Handicrafts & arts :
Indonesia is an absolute paradise for ethnic handicrafts and I am a craft addict.

4. Internet :
We are now in the age of Cyber Technology. I know it does sound like the anti-social way of living ... but it has become such an inevitable part in my life that I really cannot think of living without it.

5. Kitchen :
I enjoy baking because it relaxes me, and home treats are healthier.

6. Simple things :
Life is nothing more than all the little daily things put together. My nieces/nephew contagious laugh, my pets unconditional love (it has been almost a year since my dog, Fatso, died...but I still miss him a lot. Fatso is the reason I've never had another dog and keep Suneo the cat instead), a surprise call from a friend, a sincere smile from a stranger. etc.

7. Recycling :
I recycle as much as I can by donating old clothes, mags, books etc to charity or people in need around me.

What were you doing 10 years ago?
Working in Jakarta, it was my third year in this big city (I moved from Bandung to Jakarta in 1994). Well, it doesn't seem that long ago, it was a very busy time for me but so enjoyable at the same time.

What were you doing 1 year ago?
Still working in the same company ... hehehe

Five snacks you enjoy:
1. Edamame
2. Fresh fruits (I always have enough supply of fruits in my fridge)

My Eight Facts:

Fact #1: I am shortsighted - if I don’t have my glasses on, everything is a blur far away even people. Part of it is inherited but mostly it was my fault for reading too much comics in the dark when I lived in dorm school. Back then, the nuns were very strict with lights usage.

Fact #2: When I was young, I dreamed to be a flight attendant because I love the uniforms they get to wear and the possibility to travel to many different places, but alas I was not tall enough (am only 5 ft 4 inches) and short sighted too.

Fact #3: As a child, I was somewhat rebellious and a free spirit. I had an innate creativity and worked best when I was given a free hand.

Fact #4: I always sit near the exit door each time I watch the movie in the cinema. I dont know why but am afraid of getting trapped inside the building if there's a fire!

Fact #5: I have 7 moles on my left side of my face, and several more on the body and arm also on the left side.

Fact #6: I am a jeans and T-shirt person .

Fact #7: I've been attacked by dogs on two separate occasions but that does not make me scared of dogs, except certain breed such as dobberman, pittbull, and rottweiler. I'd prefer small dogs like my best buddy, Fatso.

Fact #8: I don't know how to drive and am afraid to drive especially in Jakarta where the drivers are famous for their ability to drive in a zigzagged manner down the street, swerving around all other traffic, ignoring all the lines or marking lanes on the street.

6 Weird Things About Me

I’ve been tagged by Belle to divulge six weird things about myself, so here it goes :

1. Whenever I create passwords for my emails, ATM pin number and other things that require passwords, it is more likely I will use the part numbers from certain products from the catalogue books as it's locked away in the vault of my mind.

2. I am not a big fan of jewelry but I like seeing other people wearing them. My ears were pierced when I was a baby and I wore earrings when I was a little girl but they never lasted long because I always took them off. Necklaces, bracelets, rings are okay but only if I can take them off after that. Dont ask me to wear them 24/7.

3. I love chillis sauce on almost anything I eat except cakes...lol! I like them on my soup, as a dipping for the fried chicken / fish. I like them for the pizzas, sandwiches or burgers. I just love anything that has 3 flavours ... salty, spicy and sour. Now I have to cut my hot meter because the herbalist told me it is not good for my endo problem.

4. I get stuck on certain foods/fruits for a period of time. Once it was spicy veggies salads / star fruits / strawberries for a couple of weeks. Once it was spicy froglegs soup / sweet martabak, until I got sick of seeing them... hehehe! Right now it's granny apples and pineapples.

5. When I go to the cinema, I always chose to sit near the exit door because I'm afraid of fire or anything bad that might happen.

6. My prefered choice when buying clothes or T-shirts are white, black, pastel colors (pink, light blue, light yellow). Although I like bright colors like red, yellow and green but I hardly have this 3 colors in my wardrobe.
